Hakim Ziyech Joins Galatasaray on Permanent Transfer
Chelsea have officially confirmed that Hakim Ziyech has completed a permanent move to Galatasaray, ending his tenure at Stamford Bridge. Ziyech initially joined the Turkish giants on a loan deal for the 2023/24 season with an option to make the transfer permanent, and it has now been finalized.
From Loan to Permanent Transfer
The initial arrangement between Chelsea and Galatasaray included a clause that could turn Ziyech’s loan into a permanent transfer.
There was some ambiguity surrounding whether this clause was obligatory or optional, with conflicting reports and statements from both clubs. However, Chelsea’s recent announcement has clarified that the Moroccan winger will remain with Galatasaray.
In their official statement, Chelsea said:
“Hakim Ziyech has completed a permanent transfer to Galatasaray. Ziyech initially joined the Turkish giants on loan last summer but has now departed Chelsea on a permanent basis.
The 31-year-old signed for Chelsea from Ajax in the summer of 2020 and went on to make 107 appearances. He scored 14 goals for the Blues and won the Champions League, UEFA Super Club and FIFA Club World Cup during his time at Stamford Bridge. We thank Hakim for his efforts during his time at Chelsea and wish him well as he begins the next chapter of his career.”
Galatasaray’s Terms and Financial Details
Galatasaray also released a statement detailing the terms of the agreement:
“Professional football player Hakim Ziyech’s final transfer was made free of charge as the free purchase option conditions in the temporary transfer contract were met. The football player will be paid a net seasonal wage of 2,850,000 euros for the 2024-2025 season. In addition, in accordance with the agreement, if the conditional extension option is realised, the football player will be paid a net seasonal salary of 2,850,000 euros for the 2025-2026 season.”
Despite the free transfer, Chelsea have included a sell-on clause in the deal, allowing them to benefit financially if Galatasaray decide to sell Ziyech in the future.
Ziyech’s Chelsea Journey
Hakim Ziyech joined Chelsea from Ajax in 2020 for a reported fee of £33.3 million. During his three-year stint with the Blues, Ziyech made 107 appearances, scored 14 goals, and contributed significantly to their UEFA Champions League victory in 2021, as well as their UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup triumphs.
His time at Chelsea saw flashes of brilliance, but Ziyech struggled with consistency and injuries, leading to his eventual loan move to Galatasaray. Now, as he transitions to a permanent role in the Süper Lig, Ziyech will be looking to revive his form and make a substantial impact at his new club.
What’s Next for Chelsea?
Chelsea continue to reshape their squad under the management of Enzo Maresca, aiming to build a team capable of challenging for titles. The departure of Ziyech opens up possibilities for new signings and further adjustments as the club navigates the transfer market.
Conclusion
Hakim Ziyech’s permanent transfer to Galatasaray marks a new chapter in his career while Chelsea bid farewell to a player who contributed to their recent European successes. With a sell-on clause in place, the Blues could still see future financial benefits from this move.
