Man City and Man United on Transfer Red Alert as Premier League Star Breaks Down in Tears
Manchester City and Manchester United may compete this summer to sign Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes.
Bruno Guimaraes, Newcastle United’s star, was seen crying at St James’ Park amid reports of a departure this summer.
The Brazilian wept at the final whistle during Newcastle’s 1-1 draw with Brighton at St James’ Park, but whether it was Guimaraes’ final game for the club remains to be seen. In recent months, he has been linked with a move to French club Paris Saint-Germain, as well as Manchester City.
According to reports, Dan Ashworth, who is expected to join from Newcastle, may also be interested. Ashworth has been on gardening leave since February, having notified the North East club that he wished to join Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS at Old Trafford.
Guimaraes’ camp negotiated a release provision in his most recent Newcastle contract, which can be exercised in the coming weeks despite the fact that his contract expires in 2028. Magpies manager Eddie Howe has already stated that he intends to create a team around the midfielder.
He said: “It goes without saying what my thoughts on the Bruno situation are. We want to keep him, we want to build our team around him and he’s an integral part of what we are doing. His form has been very good, he seems very happy and settled, he will be thinking about a busy summer ahead and where we can hopefully take the team.
“He is a big part of that. I am aware of his contractual status but it’s not something I focus on. When it’s something you don’t necessarily have control over, I don’t tend to worry about it.”
Newcastle may be forced to sell this summer as they are currently hamstrung by Financial Fair Play constraints. Howe previously added: “Where we sit now in terms of wages and transfer fees, I don’t think we are in a position to do that.
“We have to sign and develop players with the potential to become world-class. We are well on the way to doing that. It does not mean you can’t have [world-class] players in your squad, it just means that you have to work really hard with them. I have no issue doing it.”
