Martin Zubimendi: Manchester United’s Latest Target
Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi has emerged as one of the latest targets for Manchester United. United are continuing to be linked with several potential new signings as Erik ten Hag looks to strengthen his squad.
Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro have already signed this summer, and there are likely to be further additions arriving at Old Trafford in the weeks to come.
United’s Interest in Zubimendi
Zubimendi is the latest player to be linked with United as Ineos Group targets further signings with new sporting director Dan Ashworth. Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte and Benfica’s Joao Neves have also been credited as targets for United.
United do have an interest in Zubimendi as the club continues to assess potential midfield targets. The 25-year-old is reported to have a £53 million release clause in his contract.
The Reds have already been told by Xabi Alonso why they would be wise to sign the Spain international.
Xabi Alonso’s Endorsement
Alonso managed Zubimendi during his time with Real Sociedad’s B team, which he coached until May 2022 before taking charge of Bayer Leverkusen.
It was soon after his switch to Germany that Alonso spoke of his admiration for Zubimendi and why he holds the midfielder in such high regard.
“Martin’s a player all coaches would want,” Alonso told The Guardian in September 2022. “He’s generous, he always thinks more about his teammates than himself.
He has that ability to generate play, to make those around him better, always offering solutions; to improve the move. He understands what the next step is before the ball gets to him. He has that ability to organise, the axis. I loved working with him.”
Pre-Season Preparations
United are continuing to step up their pre-season preparations ahead of the new Premier League campaign. Ten Hag and Co. have already had friendlies against Rosenborg and Rangers and will now travel to the United States for three more friendly matches.
