Chelsea’s Deadline Day Frenzy: Potential Signings and Last-Minute Deals Under Enzo Maresca
Chelsea have been extremely active in the summer transfer window, and they are expected to continue their dealings on deadline day.
The appointment of Enzo Maresca as head coach, replacing Mauricio Pochettino, has led to a significant overhaul of the first-team squad.
Several players have already left Stamford Bridge, including Conor Gallagher and Ian Maatsen, while new signings like Portuguese duo Pedro Neto and Joao Felix have joined the club.
Despite their busy summer, Chelsea shows no signs of slowing down and could finalize several key deals on the final day of the transfer window.
1. Victor Osimhen:
Chelsea are interested in Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, who had an outstanding 2022/23 season with 26 goals in 32 Serie A games.
However, his 2023/24 campaign has been less impressive, and with fewer top European clubs in need of a striker, Osimhen’s options have narrowed.
Chelsea is keen to sign him but is not willing to break their wage structure. If a move to Stamford Bridge doesn’t materialize, Osimhen might consider a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia.
2. Ivan Toney:
As an alternative to Osimhen, Chelsea could turn to Brentford striker Ivan Toney. The England international has also been linked with Manchester United but reportedly prefers a move to Chelsea.
Toney brings Premier League experience and could help develop Nicolas Jackson. Priced at around £50 million, Toney would be a more affordable and pragmatic option for Chelsea, even if he doesn’t carry the same star power as Osimhen.
3. Jadon Sancho Swap Deal:
Chelsea is also exploring the possibility of a swap deal involving Raheem Sterling and Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho. With an abundance of wingers already in their squad, including Cole Palmer, Joao Felix, Pedro Neto, Noni Madueke, and Mykhailo Mudryk, Chelsea is open to offloading Sterling.
A swap with Sancho, who is out of favor at Manchester United, could be beneficial for both clubs, offering fresh starts for both players.
As the transfer window nears its close, Chelsea remains poised to make strategic moves, further reshaping their squad under Maresca’s leadership.
