Chelsea’s Pursuit of Zero Net Spend: Five Players Still on the Market as Transfer Windows Remain Open
Chelsea are working to offload five more players as they aim to end the summer transfer window with a balanced budget.
Despite the Premier League transfer window closing, Chelsea continues to reduce their large squad, recently confirming the sale of Brazilian winger Angelo Gabriel to Al-Nassr for £19 million.
This deal netted the club a £6 million profit, having acquired Gabriel from Santos for £13 million last summer.
Chelsea’s outgoing transfers have now totaled £189 million, compared to their £208 million expenditure on new signings, including Joao Felix, Pedro Neto, and Kieran Dewsbury-Hall.
To achieve a zero net spend, Chelsea is eyeing further sales in Turkey, Greece, and Belgium, where transfer windows remain open.
The Evening Standard reports that Ben Chilwell, David Datro Fofana, Harvey Vale, Alex Matos, and Deivid Washington are potential candidates for departure.
Chilwell, frozen out of the first team by Enzo Maresca, may face a loan move, likely to a Turkish club, as finding a permanent transfer has proven challenging.
Fofana has made only three appearances for Chelsea since his arrival from Molde in January 2023, with a loan spell at Burnley last season. Washington, also a Brazilian forward, could be next to leave after a short tenure at Chelsea.
Vale was close to a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq in August, but the transfer fell through before the Saudi window closed.
Chelsea’s significant sales this summer include Conor Gallagher (£35.6 million) to Atletico Madrid, Ian Maatsen (£38 million) to Aston Villa, and Romelu Lukaku (£28 million) to Napoli.
