Arsenal U21s Secure EFL Trophy Victory as Josh Robinson Shines
As Arsenal heads into the international break, the club’s U21 squad provided some exciting action, securing a 2-1 victory over Leyton Orient in the EFL Trophy.
With no competitive games for the senior team until mid-September, the spotlight shifted to Mehmet Ali’s young Gunners, who impressed with their performance in Southern Group E.
Arsenal U21s Triumph Over Leyton Orient in EFL Trophy
Arsenal’s U21s grabbed a crucial win against Leyton Orient, thanks to goals from full-back Josh Robinson and winger Ismael Kabia.
Robinson, just 19 years old, opened the scoring with a stunning lob over the goalkeeper in the third minute, showcasing his attacking prowess.
Despite Leyton Orient equalizing through Dan Happe, the Gunners regained the lead in the 55th minute when 18-year-old Kabia took advantage of a defensive error to net the winning goal.
Leyton Orient had a golden opportunity to level the match in the dying moments, but Dan Agyei’s last-minute penalty miss ensured Arsenal left east London with all three points.
Coach Mehmet Ali Praises Josh Robinson’s Unique Talent
Arsenal U21s coach Mehmet Ali heaped praise on Josh Robinson after the game, highlighting the full-back’s athleticism and ability to cover the pitch. Ali described Robinson’s qualities as “unique” and commended his development, particularly his timing in going forward and defending one-on-one situations.
“Josh’s athleticism and ability to get up and down the pitch is unique,” Ali told Arsenal’s media team. “In one-on-one duels, he’s very good, and he’s definitely improved his timing of when to go forward and attack. I’m really pleased for him.”
Ali also emphasized that Robinson needs to continue focusing on his primary defensive responsibilities, such as stopping wingers and protecting the far post.
Robinson in Form: Two Goals in Two Games
Josh Robinson’s goal against Leyton Orient follows another strong performance in Arsenal U21s’ 4-1 victory over Aston Villa U21s in Premier League 2. The young full-back has now scored in two consecutive games, adding an attacking threat to his solid defensive work.
What’s Next for Arsenal U21s?
With their win over Leyton Orient, Arsenal U21s sit atop Southern Group E in the EFL Trophy. The Gunners still have upcoming matches against MK Dons in October and Colchester United in November.
However, their next challenge will come on September 21, when they travel to face Stoke City U21s.
As Arsenal’s senior squad takes a break, the club’s U21s continue to push forward, and all eyes will be on Josh Robinson and his teammates as they aim for further success in the EFL Trophy.
