Chelsea Faces Fresh Injury Woes Ahead of Bournemouth Clash as Goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen Joins Growing List of Concerns
Chelsea have suffered another injury setback ahead of their match against Bournemouth this weekend.
Goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen was substituted during Denmark’s Under-21 win over the Czech Republic on Tuesday night, with the seriousness of his injury still unknown.
As Chelsea’s second-choice keeper, Jorgensen may face a difficult few days and could miss the Bournemouth clash.
Manager Enzo Maresca has indicated that selections will be based on players’ performance in training, but this injury could cause changes to the bench at the Vitality Stadium.
Since joining from Villarreal in the summer, Jorgensen has played twice in the Conference League and earned call-ups for Denmark’s Under-21 matches against Iceland and the Czech Republic.
He played in the 4-2 loss to Iceland and started in the 5-0 win over the Czech Republic before his injury. His manager acknowledged the injury and said they acted cautiously.
Denmark Under-21s coach Steffen Højer told Campo: “I’m not sure. He’s being evaluated. I don’t know how bad it is, but it was serious enough for him to come off. I asked him how he was. He was frustrated about leaving the game, but hopefully, it’s nothing too severe.”
Jorgensen’s injury raises further concerns for Chelsea, with Romeo Lavia still out of action since the season opener and absent from today’s Cobham training session.
Cole Palmer, who had withdrawn from the England squad due to a minor injury, has returned to training. However, captain Reece James, who suffered a hamstring injury before the season began, may remain unavailable for the weekend.
In addition, French defender Malo Gusto, who withdrew from international duty after picking up an injury against Crystal Palace, was also missing from training.
Summer signing Omari Kellyman is confirmed to be out of the Bournemouth game following an injury setback during training.
