Arsenal Captain Martin Odegaard Doubtful for North London Derby After Ankle Injury in Norway’s Win Over Austria
Arsenal are currently concerned about Martin Odegaard’s fitness ahead of Sunday’s North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Gunners will face Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs in a Premier League showdown at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
Arsenal may be without their captain for the derby after Odegaard limped off during Norway’s 2-1 victory over Austria on Monday evening.
Odegaard sustained what has been initially diagnosed as a sprained ankle after a tackle by Christoph Baumgartner.
The Arsenal midfielder was later seen using crutches as he boarded a plane back to London, where he will undergo further scans.
The Daily Mail’s Sami Mokbel has now provided an update on Odegaard’s condition.
Arsenal hopeful Martin Odegaard won’t face extended absence
On Wednesday night, Mokbel posted on X, summarizing his article.

Odegaard had to undergo more tests on Wednesday due to swelling in his ankle, which made the initial scan inconclusive.
Mokbel wrote that “there is hope today’s tests will reveal clear details of the injury.”
Arsenal are optimistic that Odegaard will not be out for an extended period, though they have not set a timeline for his recovery, according to the report.
While it’s uncertain if the Gunners captain will miss the Tottenham game, “it is clear he is a doubt” for Sunday’s derby.
How long could Odegaard be sidelined?
The Daily Mail shared quotes from Norway’s team doctor, Ole Sand, who estimated that Odegaard might be out for about three weeks.
“Such ankle injuries typically require at least three weeks to heal. Anything less would be fortunate, and it could take longer.”
“What the MRI scan in London has shown so far is that there is likely no fracture in the ankle.”
Arsenal are set to face Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend, with the match kicking off at 2 pm.
