Manchester City Receive Boost with Phil Foden’s Return to Training Ahead of Busy September Fixtures
Manchester City have received a boost with Phil Foden’s return to first-team training on Wednesday, as Pep Guardiola’s squad resumed club duties.
The 24-year-old has been sidelined since making his only appearance for Manchester City in the Premier League opener, where Erling Haaland and Mateo Kovacic secured a win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Foden, who missed Manchester City’s pre-season tour of the United States, returned in early August after participating in the European Championship with England.
Along with Kyle Walker, John Stones, and Spain’s Rodri, Foden was among the last to rejoin training and was gradually integrated back into the squad by Guardiola.
Having been hampered by illness, Foden’s season faced an unexpected halt, but this recent update comes at an ideal time for Guardiola and City as the fixture schedule ramps up.
As the Premier League champions resumed training at the City Football Academy on Wednesday following the international break, Foden also returned to the pitch after dealing with a prolonged illness. This issue had previously forced him to withdraw from an England call-up by interim head coach Lee Carsley, along with Kyle Walker.
Manchester City’s next Premier League match is against Brentford this weekend, marking the start of four consecutive home fixtures across three competitions in September.
The UEFA Champions League returns next week with a highly anticipated clash as Inter Milan visits the Etihad Stadium for a rematch of the 2023 final.
Additionally, the Carabao Cup is back, and City will face Watford in the third round, just one day before a significant Premier League match against title rivals Arsenal.
Foden’s return provides much-needed depth for Guardiola and his coaching staff, especially with Oscar Bobb still out due to a long-term injury.
