Manchester United’s Summer Coup for Leny Yoro Marks Major Transfer Success
Manchester United pulled off one of the best deals of the summer by securing the signing of highly-rated French defender Leny Yoro.
Heading into the transfer window, Yoro was heavily linked with Real Madrid, but United swooped in to capture the young talent, convincing him to join the Premier League giants.
Despite being sidelined with a pre-season metatarsal injury, Yoro has already spoken about his admiration for Manchester United.
In an interview with Rio Ferdinand for TNT Sports, Yoro expressed how awestruck he has been by the club’s size, history, and passionate fanbase, even describing it as bigger than he had imagined.
Yoro said: “The club is the biggest in the world. The history, the fans, everything is big here.” He admitted that the scale of United exceeded his expectations: “Bigger, bigger. I don’t know if I was ready for this, but I will now complain, you know. It’s really good. The fans, the stage, everything is good.”
Although Yoro has only featured briefly in pre-season—45 minutes against Rangers and 20 minutes against Arsenal—he has given fans a glimpse of his style. Describing his strengths, Yoro said: “I try to be intelligent on the pitch, to play with my head. To understand the game, the opponents, and to be calm. To be calm with the ball, and when I defend.”
With Yoro expected to return in a couple of months, United’s depth in defense will be further bolstered. His signing was complemented by the acquisition of Matthijs de Ligt, strengthening the club’s center-back options.
Until Yoro’s return, United manager Erik ten Hag has reliable backup with Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans, and first-choice defenders Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire, and De Ligt.
Yoro’s eventual return will offer ten Hag a welcome selection headache, providing more defensive stability and competition after last season’s injury struggles.
