Enzo Maresca Hints at Premier League Starts for Chelsea Hat-Trick Hero Nkunku After Dominant 5-0 Win Over Barrow
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca praised Christopher Nkunku following his hat-trick in Chelsea’s 5-0 Carabao Cup victory over Barrow.
The French forward, making his first start for the club since the season opener, struck twice early in the game and completed his hat-trick in the 75th minute.
Chelsea dominated from the start, with Joao Felix’s free-kick leading to an own goal by Barrow’s goalkeeper Paul Farman, and Pedro Neto adding another goal shortly after half-time.
Maresca highlighted Nkunku’s performance, along with those of Pedro Neto and Joao Felix, noting that all three players “deserve to start” in the Premier League.
Despite their limited opportunities in the league so far, Maresca was impressed by how they made the most of their minutes in the cup.
While Nkunku faces stiff competition, particularly from in-form striker Nicolas Jackson, Maresca hinted at the possibility of fielding Nkunku alongside Jackson.
However, he also stressed the importance of maintaining defensive balance, humorously suggesting that while he would love to play all his attacking options, it would leave the defense vulnerable.
Chelsea will return to Premier League action on Saturday with a home game against Brighton, as they look to build on their strong start to the season.
