Raphael Varane Confirms Next Role at Como FC After Retirement from Football and Emotional Manchester United Farewell
Raphaël Varane has confirmed that he will continue his involvement in football with Como FC after announcing his retirement from professional playing.
The 31-year-old former Manchester United and Real Madrid defender made his retirement official through an emotional statement on Instagram, reflecting on his career and the challenges he faced along the way.
Varane, who played his last professional match in Manchester United’s FA Cup final win over Manchester City, has hinted at a new role with Serie A club Como, although the specifics of his non-playing position have not yet been revealed.
Varane’s post mentioned that he will remain with Como in a new capacity, expressing his excitement about the transition: “I will remain with Como. Just without using my boots and shin pads.”
Como has attracted notable figures like Cesc Fàbregas, who is now head coach, as well as former players like Pepe Reina and Alberto Moreno. Varane only played one game for Como, in a brief appearance in the Italian Cup before being sidelined by injury.
Manchester United paid tribute to Varane on social media, thanking him for his leadership and commitment during his three seasons at Old Trafford.
Varane responded by calling Manchester a “home away from home” and hinted at a future connection with the club.
Varane’s next chapter at Como signifies a new phase in his career, and while details of his role are yet to be confirmed, his legacy as a world-class defender and leader remains firmly established.
