Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho may be set for a Premier League return after telling confidants he would like to manage Manchester United again.
Jose Mourinho is reportedly looking for a sensational return to Manchester United, despite the club’s lack of interest in re-appointing him.
Following his dismissal in December 2018, Mourinho told close sources that he would “walk” back to Manchester for another chance to lead United.
Despite being friends with United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Mourinho isn’t expecting an offer from Old Trafford.
The two-time Champions League winner maintains a friendship with Ratcliffe, but does not expect an approach from the club he previously managed. United are currently ranked eighth in the Premier
This season’s 18 defeats are their most since 1977-78. Erik ten Hag’s future is uncertain with an FA Cup final against Manchester City scheduled for May 25, following a disappointing season in which United were knocked out of Europe before Christmas and the League Cup early.
United have been looking for potential replacements for Ten Hag, who hasn’t received full support from Ratcliffe since acquiring a 27.7% stake in February. Mourinho succeeded Louis van Gaal as manager of Manchester United in May 2016, leading the club to League Cup and Europa League victories in his first season.
In Mourinho’s second season, the Red Devils finished second in the Premier League and advanced to the FA Cup final, but he was left without support during the 2018 summer transfer window. Mourinho’s most recent stint was with Roma, where he led them to the Europa Conference League title in 2022.
Last season, Roma reached the Europa League final but lost to Sevilla in a penalty shootout.
