Alejandro Garnacho Risks Tension with Erik ten Hag After Liking Ronaldo’s Criticism of Manchester United Manager on Social Media
Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho may have strained his relationship with Erik ten Hag following another social media blunder.
Last season in April, Garnacho faced criticism for liking social media posts that criticized Ten Hag after he was substituted at halftime during a match against Bournemouth.
Ten Hag later revealed that Garnacho had apologized for the incident, and both agreed to move forward.
However, the Argentine international has once again drawn attention on social media by liking an Instagram post that included Cristiano Ronaldo’s subtle criticism of Ten Hag.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano shared Ronaldo’s comments from his interview with Rio Ferdinand, where United’s iconic No. 7 questioned the team’s mentality under Ten Hag’s management.

Ronaldo, who left United in 2022 after publicly criticizing Ten Hag’s treatment of him, remains unimpressed with the manager’s leadership. He stated: “A Man United coach cannot say they can’t compete for the Premier League and Champions League every year. This is Man United! You have to be there, mentally saying… maybe we don’t have the potential, but we’re going to try.”
Sharp-eyed fans noticed Garnacho had liked Romano’s post, though it’s unclear whether he did so intentionally or if he shares Ronaldo’s views on Ten Hag.
Regardless, Ten Hag is unlikely to welcome another media query regarding Garnacho’s social media behavior during his next press conference.
On the field, Garnacho has had a slow start to the season, with only one start in Manchester United’s first three Premier League matches.
