Alisson Becker Expected to Stay at Liverpool Despite Saudi Interest, Confirms Fabrizio Romano
Liverpool’s summer transfer window is shaping up to be a pivotal period for the club, with significant changes anticipated both on and off the pitch. Amidst the uncertainty surrounding the future of key players, renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Alisson Becker is expected to remain at Anfield next season despite receiving interest from Saudi Arabian clubs.
Key Players Likely to Stay
With Arne Slot set to take over from Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool is facing a crucial transition phase. The club aims to retain its core players, including Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Mohamed Salah. Among these vital players, Alisson Becker has now emerged as a central figure who is expected to stay despite lucrative offers from abroad.
Alisson’s Contribution and Interest from Saudi Arabia
Since his £67 million move to Liverpool, Alisson Becker has been a cornerstone of the team’s success, amassing over 200 Premier League appearances. His exceptional goalkeeping skills have earned him the reputation of being one of the best in the league. However, he missed a significant portion of the past season due to injury, which sparked rumors about his potential departure.
Romano revealed that clubs in Saudi Arabia were eyeing Alisson with substantial contract offers, hoping to lure him away from Merseyside. Despite these approaches, Romano’s latest update suggests that Liverpool has no intention of selling their star goalkeeper. Alisson himself is reportedly content at Liverpool and not seeking a move for financial reasons.
Romano’s Insights
In a recent update on his YouTube channel, Romano elaborated on the situation:
Embed from Getty Images“In the last few days we heard rumours on Alisson and proposals from Saudi. I was checking on that guys, and what I’m told is that there was some approaches around March, April for Alisson, trying to understand the situation around the Brazilian goalkeeper, but the answer I got, as of now, and never say never in the market, but as of now, and of May, is that there was some approach, but Alisson is expected to stay at Liverpool,” he said.
“Liverpool are not planning to change the goalkeeper, they are very happy with Alisson, Alisson is very happy at Liverpool. He’s not desperate to change, he’s not looking for money. And so, at the moment, there is no expectation for Alisson to leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window for Saudi.”
Implications for Caoimhin Kelleher
Alisson’s decision to stay at Liverpool brings up questions about the future of his understudy, Caoimhin Kelleher. The Irish goalkeeper has demonstrated his capabilities and might feel ready to seek a starting role elsewhere. His potential departure would be a challenging scenario for Liverpool, requiring them to find a reliable backup for Alisson.
Before Klopp’s departure, he reportedly praised Kelleher’s development, which might encourage the young goalkeeper to pursue opportunities where he can be the first-choice keeper. While losing Kelleher would be a setback, Liverpool would likely understand his desire for regular playing time.
Retaining Alisson Becker is a significant boost for Liverpool as they navigate through this transitional period. With Arne Slot at the helm, maintaining stability with key players like Alisson is crucial for the club’s ambitions. As Liverpool prepares for the next season, the focus will be on reinforcing the squad and addressing any potential departures, ensuring they remain competitive at the highest level.
