Arsenal Chief Edu Told of Transfer Mistakes That Could Haunt Him – EXCLUSIVE
Former Arsenal star Emmanuel Petit has urged the club to make a key addition to their squad, despite the summer transfer window being closed.
In an exclusive interview with Express Sport in association with Bet Victor, Petit highlighted that while Arsenal were active in the transfer market, they missed opportunities that could come back to bite them.
Arsenal completed deals for David Raya, Riccardo Calafiori, Mikel Merino, and brought in Raheem Sterling on loan from Chelsea, but Petit believes the Gunners’ transfer chief Edu has made some missteps that could cost them in the long run.
One name Petit believes Arsenal should still pursue is Adrien Rabiot, a free agent after leaving Juventus at the end of last season.
“I understand that his financial demands are huge, but I still don’t get how he is still without a club. He is someone that they could have signed,”
Petit said. He argued that Rabiot would provide crucial depth and add quality to Arsenal’s midfield.
Petit also pointed out that Arsenal missed an opportunity by not signing Alexis Mac Allister when he left Brighton for Liverpool in a £35 million deal this summer.
“I’m a big fan of Mac Allister,” Petit said, explaining that Arsenal could have brought both Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo to create a formidable midfield pairing.
While Petit acknowledges Arsenal have a strong squad, he stresses that manager Mikel Arteta is entering a critical season.
After narrowly missing out on trophies in recent years, Petit believes Arteta must deliver silverware to maintain the trust and ambition of his players. “If they don’t win anything this season, next year it will be very difficult for Arteta to bring the same ambition with the players,” Petit warned.
In summary, Petit feels that while Edu and Arsenal made good moves in the transfer market, the failure to secure key players like Rabiot and Mac Allister could prove costly. He also emphasized that this season is crucial for Arteta, who must win silverware to keep the momentum and belief within his squad.
