Arsenal Set to Offload Thomas Partey for Just £8.5m
Arsenal is reportedly considering selling Thomas Partey for a nominal fee this summer as the club looks to revamp its squad after narrowly missing out on the Premier League title.
Partey, who will enter the final year of his contract, has struggled with injuries since joining Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in 2020.
Despite being a key player for Mikel Arteta, Partey’s frequent injury absences have prompted Arsenal to explore the possibility of offloading him. Reports suggest that Fenerbahce has expressed interest in signing the Ghanaian midfielder and has even initiated talks with him.
However, what may irk Arsenal fans is the rumored transfer fee. According to a report from Fotospor, Fenerbahce could secure Partey’s services for a meager €10 million (£8.5m), which seems disproportionately low for a player of Partey’s caliber.
This potential deal highlights a broader issue at Arsenal regarding player sales. While Edu Gaspar, the club’s sporting director, has excelled in acquiring new talent, the Gunners have struggled to maximize their returns on outgoing players.
With only one player ever sold for more than £30 million in the club’s history, Arsenal has often seen valuable assets depart for minimal fees or even on a free transfer.
For Arsenal to progress, Edu may need to address this discrepancy and ensure that the club maximizes its returns on player sales, especially for key assets like Thomas Partey.
Otherwise, letting him go for a paltry sum would underscore the club’s failure to learn from past mistakes.
