Arsenal Star David Raya Exposed: New Footage Shows Simulation Incident Missed by Referee Michael Oliver in Manchester City Clash
Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has come under scrutiny after new footage revealed an incident during the 2-2 draw against Manchester City that was missed by referee Michael Oliver.
The footage shows Raya allegedly simulating an injury to delay the game during City’s second-half pressure, a moment that helped Arsenal regroup while they were down to 10 men following Leandro Trossard’s red card.
The video, taken from the stands, shows a member of Arsenal’s coaching staff signaling for Raya to go down. Shortly after, substitute Myles Lewis-Skelly ran to the touchline to communicate with the goalkeeper, who then slumped to the ground, requesting medical attention. This gave Arsenal a crucial break as City pressed for an equalizer.
Michael Oliver, unaware of the full context of the incident, did not book Raya but did caution Lewis-Skelly for unsporting behavior.
The delay allowed Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta to call his players over for instructions, slowing down the game.
Arsenal was widely criticized for time-wasting tactics throughout the second half as they fought to maintain their 2-1 lead against City’s relentless attacks. However, City ultimately found a way through, with John Stones scoring a stoppage-time equalizer to secure a point.
Despite the time-wasting tactics, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was complimentary of Arsenal’s defensive resilience after the match, praising their commitment to hold off City’s attacks.
He acknowledged that his team struggled to break down Arsenal’s defensive line but did not express bitterness over the tactics used to frustrate his side.
