Arsenal’s Transformation: How Kai Havertz Compares to Former Flop Lucas Perez’s Scoring Record
Arsenal’s transformation over the past few years has been remarkable. After a disappointing 2021/22 season where they missed out on a top-four finish, highlighted by a heavy 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, the Gunners have become serious title contenders.
Much of this resurgence can be attributed to manager Mikel Arteta and key signings like Declan Rice, Martin Ødegaard, and Kai Havertz.
Despite Havertz’s impressive performances in the latter part of last season, a former Arsenal striker who struggled during his time at the club has actually outscored him consistently in recent years.
Havertz’s Recent Record:
Arsenal invested £65 million in Havertz last summer, a surprising move given his underwhelming final season at Chelsea, where he scored nine goals and provided one assist in 47 appearances, averaging a goal involvement every 4.7 games.
However, after adjusting to Arsenal’s setup, Havertz improved, scoring 14 goals and contributing seven assists in his first season at the Emirates, averaging a goal involvement every 2.42 games.
Perez’s Recent Record:
The player outscoring Havertz is Lucas Pérez, who joined Arsenal in the summer of 2016 from Deportivo La Coruña for around £17 million.
Pérez had a brief stint with Arsenal, scoring seven goals and providing five assists in 21 appearances, before being loaned out and later sold.

Since leaving Arsenal, Pérez has played for various clubs, including West Ham, Alaves, Elche, and Cadiz, before returning to Deportivo. Despite his frequent moves, Pérez has consistently been a prolific goalscorer.
