Bernardo Silva Sets Firm Deadline for Manchester City Future Resolution Amid Transfer Speculation
According to reports, Bernardo Silva is expected to decide his future with Manchester City just four weeks before the start of the new season.
The upcoming summer transfer window is expected to be the fourth time Bernardo Silva seeks an exit from the Etihad Stadium, having grown dissatisfied with the culture on offer in the north-west of England.
Bernardo Silva and his representatives are expected to scour the market for clubs interested in triggering his Manchester City release clause, as well as a desire to relocate closer to his native Portugal and warmer climates.
That desire is likely to bring FC Barcelona back to the table, but the Catalan giants face severe financial constraints and would almost certainly have to sell a high-profile first-team player to fund a move for the Etihad man.
In an effort to expedite his departure from Pep Guardiola’s side, Bernardo Silva has reportedly set a firm deadline for resolving his future for another year.
According to the Mirror’s David McDonnell, Bernardo Silva wants his City future resolved by the end of the 2024 European Championships, where the Portugal international midfielder will feature.
It is also stated that the 29-year-old’s contract, which was renewed and extended during the previous summer transfer window, now includes a £50 million release clause that can be activated beginning this summer.
Silva has made it clear that a return to his boyhood club SL Benfica is on the agenda, but not at a time when he is arguably at the peak of his powers, telling the media in November, “I want to return to Benfica (in the future). If the club needs me at the time, obviously things will happen.”
Despite his clear desire to leave the football club, Bernardo Silva has remained committed to the Manchester City cause this season, being called upon on a regular basis by his manager and playing a variety of roles in the operation.
Bernardo Silva has 11 goals and six assists in 45 appearances across all competitions this season, with four games remaining, including an FA Cup semi-final winning goal against Chelsea last month.
