Chelsea Ends Pursuit of Kieran McKenna in Search for New Manager
Chelsea have officially ended their interest in Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna as they continue the search for a successor to Mauricio Pochettino.
Kenna, who has garnered attention for leading Ipswich to consecutive promotions and securing a spot in next season’s Premier League, was initially on Chelsea’s shortlist. However, as reported by TWTD and confirmed by The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the Blues have now shifted their focus elsewhere.
McKenna’s impressive managerial performance has not gone unnoticed, with Brighton & Hove Albion expressing interest in him as a potential replacement for Roberto De Zerbi.
De Zerbi parted ways with Brighton at the end of the season, leaving a managerial vacancy that McKenna might fill. Additionally, Manchester United are reportedly monitoring McKenna’s situation closely.
Chelsea’s shortlist of potential managers still includes Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca. There is also speculation about an unidentified candidate, rumored to be De Zerbi, who remains under consideration.
Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell recently expressed surprise at Pochettino’s departure but voiced confidence in the club’s decision-making process regarding the new manager. “Yeah, you know it was a surprise,” Chilwell told Sky Sports. “I think with the end of the season and how well the team did, it was definitely a surprise, but good luck to him wherever he goes moving forward.”
Chilwell added, “And we have got to look forward now as a club. I am not going to look into the speculation of who might come in, but whoever does come in I’m sure it will go well, and we can push on next season.”
Chelsea’s decision to explore other managerial options reflects their commitment to finding the right fit to lead the club forward. As the search continues, fans and players alike remain hopeful for a strong appointment to build on the team’s progress and aspirations for the upcoming season.
