Chelsea Injury Update: Wesley Fofana’s International Withdrawal and Two-Month Layoff Confirmed
Chelsea have been hit with another injury setback as Wesley Fofana has been forced to withdraw from France’s national team during the international break.
Despite being fit enough to play 90 minutes in Chelsea’s win against Crystal Palace, Fofana will remain at Cobham to follow a treatment protocol related to injuries from last season. The 23-year-old defender, who had missed all of last season with a major injury, is being closely monitored to ensure his continued recovery. He has been replaced in the France squad by Sevilla’s Loic Balde.
While Fofana’s absence isn’t considered a major concern, his injury history has Chelsea fans on alert, as the Blues are already dealing with a growing list of fitness issues.
Additionally, Aston Villa signing Kellyman, who joined Chelsea for £19 million, has been ruled out until at least November with a long hamstring injury.
Kellyman, who had just started making appearances for the academy, shared his disappointment on social media, saying he is “gutted” but will come back stronger.
There are also worries about Chelsea’s Malo Gusto and Enzo Fernandez following the match against Palace.
Gusto had to leave the pitch in the second half due to what appears to be a hamstring problem, and Enzo Fernandez was seen clutching his jaw after a late collision.
Manager Enzo Maresca acknowledged the concern over Gusto, describing it as a “muscle problem” that will be assessed further. Chelsea will be hopeful both players recover quickly, especially with the team’s injury list already growing early in the season.
