Top Striker Target: Chelsea Urged to Sign £47 Million Forward Compared to Didier Drogba
The leadership at Stamford Bridge has informed Chelsea’s head coach, Enzo Maresca, to focus on signing a £47 million player, believing this addition would greatly enhance his tactical options.
Chelsea’s strong start to the Premier League season is prompting BlueCo to consider a striker acquisition. Maresca has led Chelsea to four wins out of six, with their only loss being to Manchester City.
Victories over Brighton, West Ham, and Wolves were capped by a hard-fought win against Bournemouth.
Jadon Sancho, a deadline-day loan signing from Manchester United, has contributed three assists so far, justifying Maresca’s decision to bring him in from the fringes of Erik ten Hag’s squad.
Chelsea were also unfortunate to draw 1-1 against Crystal Palace, with goalkeeper Dean Henderson playing a key role in denying them victory.
Chelsea’s upcoming Premier League fixtures include matches against Nottingham Forest on October 6, Liverpool on October 20, Newcastle on October 27, Manchester United on November 3, and Arsenal on November 10.
While Chelsea’s early-season success has been driven by star player Cole Palmer, Senegalese striker Nicolas Jackson has also been instrumental, with four goals and three assists. This raises the question of whether they truly need a new striker.
Despite Jackson’s performances, Chelsea could still pursue a new forward in the January transfer window. Among their potential targets are Liam Delap, Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres, and Evan Ferguson, as reported by journalist Simon Phillips.
One of the top names on Chelsea’s list is Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface, who has been impressive in Germany under Xabi Alonso. Boniface delivered 22 goal contributions for Leverkusen, who eventually won the Bundesliga title last season, and he continues his fine form this year.
Chelsea’s scouts have advised Maresca to push for Boniface’s signing, believing the Nigerian striker would be a valuable addition to the squad.
Although Boniface isn’t keen on a move to England at the moment, Chelsea hasn’t ruled out the possibility of securing him next summer, as a January transfer seems unlikely.
Alonso is expected to overhaul Leverkusen’s squad by 2025, suggesting that Boniface could eventually leave the German club. Notably, Alonso has compared Boniface to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, praising his power and ability to cause problems for defenders.
“He has many qualities that could make him as strong as Drogba,” said Alonso, likening Boniface to the iconic Ivorian forward.
“Drogba was great, but Boniface has that same strength and can pose significant challenges.”
