Eden Hazard Expresses Sadness Over Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea Exit, Hints at Potential Successor
Eden Hazard has shared his disappointment over the departure of Mauricio Pochettino from Chelsea, praising the Argentine manager for his contributions during a transitional season for the club.
Pochettino, who led Chelsea to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League, parted ways with the club by mutual consent at the season’s end.
Pochettino’s Departure and Chelsea’s Season
Despite Chelsea’s struggles in the bottom half of the table for much of the season, Pochettino managed to guide the team to a respectable finish. Manchester United’s FA Cup victory ensured Chelsea’s qualification for the Europa Conference League, marking a strong conclusion to a challenging campaign. Speaking to talkSPORT at the King’s World Cup in Mexico, Hazard reflected on Pochettino’s exit:
“I was a bit sad, to be fair. I think that he did a great job. I know that people want Chelsea to be in the top four but it’s just a season of transition. He’s a great manager, I wish him good luck and let’s see who is going to be there in the future.”
Hazard remains a beloved figure at Stamford Bridge, having made over 350 appearances and scored 110 goals, contributing to Chelsea’s two Premier League titles, two Europa League triumphs, and an FA Cup victory.
His experience under renowned managers like Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte, and Maurizio Sarri gives him valuable insight into what it takes to succeed at Chelsea.
When asked about potential successors for the Chelsea managerial position, Hazard mentioned former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, who is reportedly on the club’s shortlist. Hazard’s response was measured:
“Maybe.”
In a light-hearted moment, Hazard also joked about his friend and former Chelsea teammate, Cesc Fabregas, who is currently an assistant manager at Italian side Como. Fabregas has been instrumental in Como’s promotion to Serie A and is keen on establishing a managerial career at the highest level. Hazard quipped:
“I also have my friend in Como, he can be the first manager,” giving a cheeky wink as he spoke in jest.
Fabregas’ Managerial Aspirations
While Hazard’s endorsement of Fabregas was playful, it underscores the potential within Chelsea’s former players to transition into successful managerial roles. Fabregas’ impact at Como highlights his growing reputation in coaching circles and his ambition to advance his career in management.
Eden Hazard’s comments reflect the respect and admiration he holds for Mauricio Pochettino’s efforts during a transitional period at Chelsea.
As the club looks ahead to appointing a new manager, Hazard’s insights and endorsements provide a glimpse into the qualities and candidates that might lead Chelsea into a successful future.
With figures like Roberto De Zerbi and Cesc Fabregas in the conversation, Chelsea’s next managerial appointment will be crucial in shaping the club’s trajectory.
