Erik ten Hag Says Marcus Rashford ‘Highly Motivated’ for FA Cup Final After England Snub
Erik ten Hag is optimistic that Marcus Rashford can turn his omission from England’s Euro 2024 squad into motivation for the FA Cup final and regain his scoring touch for Manchester United.
Rashford, who has been a regular for England in recent major tournaments, was left out of Gareth Southgate’s 33-man training squad, with Southgate citing better seasons from other attackers.
Rashford’s season has been challenging, with only eight goals and an eight-game goal drought. Despite this, Ten Hag is confident that Rashford will bounce back and continue to be a key player for United.
He highlighted Rashford’s talent and resilience, saying, “He looks good and that is the career with ups and downs so a down can also be fuel, that is what I see in training.
He will be highly motivated, he is highly talented. He has already a big career. I am sure he will get over this and get even more goals.”
United will miss Harry Maguire for the FA Cup final against Manchester City due to a muscle injury, but they have options with Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Jonny Evans, and Victor Lindelof available.
Ten Hag emphasized the importance of winning trophies and noted the potential for a second piece of silverware in two seasons at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have narrowed their search for a new head coach to replace Mauricio Pochettino to four candidates. The shortlist includes Enzo Maresca, Kieran McKenna, and Thomas Frank, with an unnamed fourth candidate also in the mix.
Chelsea’s sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart are leading the search, and the club aims to make an appointment by early June. Chelsea has ruled out interest in Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness and Girona’s Michel.
The decision-making process at Chelsea is ongoing, and they are moving quickly, especially with the potential for competition from Manchester United, who might part ways with Ten Hag after the FA Cup final.
