Ex-Arsenal Star Mathieu Flamini Now Leads Biochemical Company Worth Billions
Mathieu Flamini, a former Arsenal and AC Milan midfielder, has transitioned from a football career to becoming a biochemical entrepreneur.
Flamini first signed for Arsenal in 2004 for a modest compensation fee of £400,000 after leaving Marseille.
He went on to make nearly 250 appearances for the Gunners across two spells under Arsène Wenger and also had a stint at AC Milan, where his interest in green chemistry began.
During his time at AC Milan, Flamini learned about green chemistry from an engineer, which led him to co-found GFBiochemicals with business partner Pasquale Granata.
The company specializes in producing levulinic acid, a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels, and is now the world’s largest producer of this chemical from biomass. Today, GFBiochemicals is estimated to be worth at least £10 billion, with Flamini as its chief executive.
Despite widespread reports that Flamini is a billionaire, the former footballer has refuted these claims, clarifying in interviews that his personal wealth is not in the billions. His focus, he says, is not on financial success but on creating a positive environmental impact through his work in sustainable chemistry.
Flamini expressed that while the headlines about his wealth took him by surprise, his true motivation remains rooted in combating chemical pollution rather than monetary gain.
