Fabrizio Romano on Man City’s Transfer Priorities: Dani Olmo Not a Target
Fabrizio Romano has made an interesting claim about Manchester City and their interest in a player who won Euro 2024.
After Spain’s success, it was an impossible task not to praise the entirety of the team that helped Luis de la Fuente win his first major international tournament.
A lion’s share of the plaudits in that side came Rodri’s way — with him winning the Player of the Tournament award at the European Championship.
However, there were plenty of other contributors in Spain’s success, such as Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams, Dani Olmo, and Aymeric Laporte.
The Spanish triumph came down to how aligned they were as a collective throughout the competition — perhaps due to Luis de la Fuente’s excellent coaching and man-management skills.
Fabrizio Romano Delivers Intriguing Revelation about Man City and Dani Olmo
One player who captured such sentiment with his introduction into the side was Olmo, who replaced Pedri after his injury against Germany.
Ally McCoist claimed that the RB Leipzig attacker gave Spain “another gear” in the number 10 role.
In July, it was reported that City were seriously interested in signing Olmo after his talismanic showing in Spain’s 2-1 win against Germany in the quarter-final of Euro 2024.
On Thursday, it was claimed that the Sky Blues, alongside Bayern Munich, have made “good offers” to sign the Spaniard.
However, Fabrizio Romano has disputed the aforementioned claim by stating on his official YouTube channel that Manchester City were never working on a deal to sign Olmo.
“All the rumours for Man City were fake. City were not working on a deal for Dani Olmo, absolutely. They appreciate the player, but they were not working on the deal.”
Romano also stated on X that City have held “no talks” to sign Olmo so far. Furthermore, the Italian journalist revealed that RB Leipzig and the former Dinamo Zagreb technician share a good relationship — with the club being open to letting him leave in the next few weeks.
However, as far as the in-form forward’s €60 million (£50.5 million) release clause is concerned, no club has chosen to trigger it — despite it expiring on Saturday, as per Fabrizio Romano.
Man City Have Different Priorities and Dani Olmo is Not One of Them
Over a week ago, it was stated that while Manchester City are interested in signing Olmo, their priority is signing a midfielder who can play in a deeper position and act as a backup to Rodri as well.
It seems like, as Fabrizio Romano stated, City appreciate the Spanish international as a player but this summer, their priorities in the transfer window have lain elsewhere.

The relationship between RB Leipzig and Olmo’s camp remains very good, club will be open to letting him go in next weeks.

It is indicative of how sure Manchester City are of not signing Olmo that they have chosen not to trigger the £50.5 million release clause in his contract; considering it is a bargain based on how high his stock has reached after being a revelation at Euro 2024.
