Mark Goldbridge Slams Thomas Tuchel to Manchester United Rumors as ‘Nonsense’ Amid Erik ten Hag Pressure
Mark Goldbridge has dismissed rumors linking Manchester United with an interest in former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel, calling them “nonsense.”
As the second international break of the season begins, Manchester United finds itself in a difficult situation, sitting 14th in the Premier League table after seven games, with just two wins, two draws, and three losses.
In the Europa League, Erik ten Hag’s side has also struggled, drawing both of their opening matches, placing them 21st out of 36 teams in the competition’s new format. This inconsistency has led to increased speculation about the manager’s future.
Goldbridge Dismisses Tuchel Rumors as ‘Nonsense’
Recent reports from the Manchester Evening News suggested that United might be considering Tuchel as a potential replacement for Ten Hag, especially since the former Bayern and Chelsea manager is currently out of work after leaving Bayern at the end of last season.
The report hinted that while United admires several candidates, Tuchel’s availability makes him a more attractive option at the moment. Goldbridge, speaking on the United Stand, strongly rejected these claims, arguing that the club is unlikely to pursue Tuchel.
Goldbridge said, “Reacting to those rumors, the idea that United wants Tuchel because he’s immediately available doesn’t make sense to me. The ones they genuinely want aren’t available until the summer, and I don’t see INEOS acting like the Glazers did. The idea of jumping to Tuchel feels like a reactionary move, especially when he wasn’t seen as the right choice back in May.”
Ten Hag’s Future to Be Discussed
Despite Goldbridge’s dismissal of the rumors, it’s clear that the pressure on Erik ten Hag is increasing. According to Football Insider, Manchester United’s board members are expected to meet soon to discuss the Dutchman’s future at the club.
Ten Hag has been backed significantly in the transfer market, with over €200 million spent on new signings this summer, including Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, and Joshua Zirkzee.

The club’s co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, was in attendance for United’s goalless draw against Aston Villa, and it has been reported that a meeting among the board members will take place soon to decide Ten Hag’s long-term future.
Despite leading Manchester United to a top-four finish in his first season and winning the FA Cup last season, Ten Hag’s position is under scrutiny after a disappointing start to this campaign.
