Grealish Makes Bold view About Manchester City in Comparison to 2008/09 Manchester United Squad
Jack Grealish has made a bold claim for the current Manchester City squad, recent Etihad Stadium rosters, and Manchester United’s legendary 2008/09 team.
The former Aston Villa captain and his Etihad Stadium teammates are on track for a record-breaking fourth consecutive Premier League title this season, knowing that winning their remaining three games will make it a reality.
Manchester City will play Fulham and Tottenham in consecutive away games in London over the course of four days, before finishing the season at the Etihad Stadium against West Ham United.
Pep Guardiola and his players have largely maintained their remarkable heights from last season, when they achieved an unprecedented Treble success that only Manchester United had previously achieved in 1999 – a campaign that saw City promoted with an iconic win over Gillingham.
Speaking in a new interview with Sky Sports, Jack Grealish reaffirmed that, despite their obvious successes in the game, two iconic Manchester City and Manchester United squads failed to replicate what he and his teammates accomplished last season.
“I’ve said in a lot of interviews that, for me, the team I’m in now – and especially last year – it’s just unbelievable, the togetherness we have,” Grealish admitted. “Over the years, there have been so many top teams in the Premier League that haven’t done what we’ve done.
“Even (Manchester) City’s team in 2018/19, with David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne and Man United’s team in 2008/09, with Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez – none of these teams won the treble.”
Grealish continued, “That says something about our team because you can have all of the talent in the world, but you need to have the other side of it as well, like that togetherness of the pitch. That’s something we had so much of and we’ve got it this season as well.
“With the experience we have and the quality we have, we don’t really doubt ourselves. I feel like everyone knows how hard it is to win a treble. We did it last year and it was one of the best feelings I’ve ever had in football, especially having played such a big part in it.
“I just want to finish the season strongly, try and win every competition we’re in at the moment.”
While Manchester City will undoubtedly be aiming for another Premier League title, they will also have another chance to win silverware when they face Manchester United in the FA Cup final.
As a result, Pep Guardiola and his players could win four pieces of silverware in a single campaign this season, with their UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup victories potentially accompanied by a domestic double.
