Jonny Evans Reflects on Manchester United’s Pre-Season Loss to Rosenborg
Manchester United began their pre-season with a 1-0 defeat to Rosenborg on Monday. Jonny Evans, who played in the first half, noted that the lack of communication on the pitch was due to the unfamiliarity among players who haven’t played together regularly.
In the game, United fielded a mix of senior players, including Evans, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Casemiro, Mason Mount, and Marcus Rashford, and young academy players.
Rosenborg, in the midst of their season, had a fitness advantage. Erik ten Hag rotated the squad significantly, bringing on ten academy players in the second half.
Evans, speaking to MUTV, attributed the lack of communication to the inexperience and newness of the team’s lineup.
He emphasized the importance of gaining fitness and maintaining a positive attitude, especially since many regular players are still away due to Euro 2024 commitments.
Despite the loss, Evans saw value in the match, recognizing Rosenborg’s sharpness and physicality due to their ongoing season.
He reflected on his own pre-season experiences as a young player and praised the support he received from senior teammates, hoping to provide the same for the current young players.
Evans also commended Radek Vitek’s performance, noting his crucial saves despite Evans missing them due to an injury. Vitek, who was named man of the match, impressed with his shot-stopping abilities, and Evans acknowledged his growth from a loan spell last year.
Evans, who made 30 appearances last season, recently signed a new one-year contract with United. He expressed his commitment to contributing to the team’s preparations and helping integrate younger players into the squad.
