Jose Mourinho Hits Back After Fine: Claims ‘Disrespect’ Over 70-Minute Wait at Fenerbahce Press Conference
José Mourinho, currently managing Fenerbahçe, expressed his frustration after being fined for missing a press conference following his team’s 3-1 defeat to Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig.
Mourinho explained that his absence was not due to the loss but because he had to wait 70 minutes for Galatasaray’s coach, Okan Buruk, to finish his media duties.
Mourinho stated that in his 24-year managerial career, he has never intentionally avoided a press conference or feared journalists’ questions.
However, he considered the long wait excessive and disrespectful. According to Mourinho, it is customary for the away coach to conduct their press conference first, and waiting that long was beyond reason.
The former Chelsea and Tottenham manager made it clear that the delay, not the match result, was the cause of his absence.
He stressed that in future games, he will adhere to the usual “flash interview” protocol, where managers are expected to speak immediately after the game. Mourinho defended his decision, saying that if anyone was disrespected, it was him, not the media or Galatasaray.
