Leandro Trossard Opens Up About Arsenal ‘Struggles’ Following Goal in Win Over Man Utd
Arsenal were not at their free-flowing best, but overcame Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford, ensuring that the Premier League title fight will go down to the last day.
Arsenal’s match winner Leandro Trossard confesses that Arsenal’struggled’ in their precious 1-0 victory over Manchester United.
Trossard, 29, scored the only goal of the game as Arsenal won 1-0 at Old Trafford, returning them to the top of the Premier League standings and ensuring that this season’s title race will be decided on the last day. Mikel Arteta’s players were forced to fight for the win, as they provided numerous opportunities for United to draw or perhaps win.
After the final whistle, much to Arsenal’s relief, Trossard conceded in a series of post-game interviews that the Gunners were not at their best. “Maybe it wasn’t the prettiest game, but respect to the players for defending so effectively. We kept another clean sheet, and a single goal was enough to win the game,” the Belgian forward told BBC Sport.
“We were struggling a little bit so it was so nice to get the win. When you’re only 1-0 up it is always a bit tricky. We were trying to score a second but they are dangerous on the counter attack. It is a great run for us and now we take it to the final game. You never know what is going to happen.”
Trossard, who’s now scored four goals in his last five games, also told Sky Sports: “Man Utd are still a good team and they can hurt you in different ways so credit to the boys – we defended really well. Obviously we only have one objective to win the league. We have done our job today and it will be up to the last game and that is what we are aiming for.
“Hopefully next week we can celebrate something, you never know it could be. We can only hope. We have done our job and that is the only thing we could have done.”
The Gunners will play Everton next weekend, hoping that championship rivals Manchester City will have dropped points against Tottenham in midweek, since Pep Guardiola’s reigning champions have a game in hand before facing West Ham on Sunday. “Today, we wanted to open that gate,” Arsenal manager Arteta explained.
“In front of our people, let’s live one of the most beautiful days that we have lived together. We will be sat watching the game and it’s true we need the result in order to achieve it. In football there is always possibilities.”
