Lisandro Martinez Returns to Training
Manchester United has had a difficult season with injuries, and for one player in particular, the bad luck began before the season even started.
13 months ago, Manchester United had a nightmare 10-minute spell against Sevilla that shattered the club’s season.
While the two goals conceded were a significant blow at the time, Lisandro Martinez’s injury was even more severe, and he missed the FA Cup final.
Martinez has suffered several injury setbacks in the past year. Another foot surgery, an MCL tear, and, most recently, a calf injury.
Martinez’s return to training may portend good news for the future.
Lisandro Martinez is back in training.
Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford were spotted training again on Thursday. It is a welcome double boost for this weekend’s game against Arsenal, though fans are waiting for updates on Bruno Fernandes.
Martinez’s return is extremely welcome, as Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane, and Willy Kambwala are all out injured.
According to The Guardian, United’s staff miss Martinez’s vocal presence in the dressing room. He’s back.
The defender shared additional photos of his return to Carrington on his Instagram page.
Not only are Manchester United fans ecstatic to see Lisandro Martinez take a significant step towards returning to the pitch.
Two recent teammates, David de Gea and Sergio Reguilon, both responded to his message to express their support. They understand how important Martinez is to the Manchester United squad.
This is Lisandro Martinez’s third comeback this season, and we hope he can stay fit this time, especially with the FA Cup final approaching. There is a starting spot available.
Martinez was injured just a month into his first season back. He also survived a month after returning in January, despite his subsequent knee injury.
The most recent one proved to be even more frustrating. He made one substitute appearance against Brentford before suffering a muscle injury in training the following day. Many of United’s injuries appear to occur at Carrington.
One of the concerns is that United’s lack of available centre-backs may force Martinez back too soon.
Erik ten Hag revealed this week that Jonny Evans played against Palace when he was not fully fit.
Martinez is the type of character who will fight through the pain for the team, putting himself second, which may be to his disadvantage. Nobody wants to see Martinez injured again so soon.
United are a better team when he’s involved, so we can see why Ten Hag will want to put him back in quickly. He will probably start this weekend. But if we lose and he gets injured, it will be a total disaster.
