Man United Retain Christian Eriksen Amid Mason Mount Injury, Shelving Transfer Plans Until January
Manchester United have decided to retain Christian Eriksen at least until January, following the injury to Mason Mount, which has left the club short in midfield options.
Eriksen, who was previously linked with potential moves to Ajax and Anderlecht, will remain a part of Erik ten Hag’s squad as they navigate the early part of the season without Mount.
Mason Mount, who joined United from Chelsea over the summer, started the first three games of the season but suffered a hamstring injury against Brighton & Hove Albion.
This injury is expected to sideline him for four to five weeks, prompting United to hold onto Eriksen, who could provide valuable experience and depth during Mount’s absence.
Eriksen’s contract with Manchester United runs until 2025, which means that while the club could have considered selling him this summer to recoup some value, they now face the prospect of possibly losing him for free if he negotiates a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club in January.
The decision to keep Eriksen is seen as a pragmatic one, ensuring that Erik ten Hag has sufficient options in midfield during a critical period of the season.
Eriksen, who made a brief appearance in United’s recent 3-0 defeat to Liverpool, will be expected to contribute more significantly in the coming weeks as United manage their squad through Mount’s recovery period.
