Marc Guiu Shines for Spain U19s: Chelsea Youngster’s Goal Highlights Need for More Game Time
Chelsea’s young talent Marc Guiu hasn’t seen much action in the early part of the season, but the October international break offers him a chance to gain valuable playing experience.
Marc Guiu joined Chelsea during the summer transfer window from Barcelona. The 18-year-old striker made the move for a reported fee of £5 million, according to the BBC.
Up to now, Guiu has made five appearances for Chelsea’s first team across different competitions this season, with his only starts coming during the Conference League qualifiers in August. He currently sits as the third-choice striker behind Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku.
Guiu has been called up to Spain’s Under-19 squad during this international break, where they will face matches against Germany and Norway.
The young forward was named in Spain’s starting eleven for their friendly match against Germany on Wednesday afternoon.
Marc Guiu scored an impressive goal for Spain’s U19 team, although they ultimately lost 2-1 to Germany in a match played at a neutral venue.

Chelsea fans will be pleased to learn that Guiu netted a brilliant goal in the 4th minute of the game, using his awareness in the box to head in a powerful shot at the near post.
He also played the entire match, gaining valuable minutes and boosting his match fitness.
Hopefully, the young Chelsea striker will get more playing time when Spain’s U19s go up against Norway on Saturday in their 1pm kick-off.
Regarding a potential loan move for Guiu, it’s anticipated that his playing time with Chelsea’s first team this season will mostly come in various cup competitions, making it unlikely he will see a lot of senior action.
While it’s encouraging that Guiu is adjusting to life in England and training with Enzo Maresca’s squad, he remains lower in the pecking order behind two established attackers.
Given this situation, Chelsea might consider sending Guiu out on a short-term loan in the second half of the season to allow him to gain more regular playing time, either in the Premier League or the Championship.
