Mason Greenwood Nears Move to Marseille from Manchester United
Mason Greenwood is on the brink of finalizing a move away from Manchester United, having traveled to France to complete the formalities of his transfer to Marseille.
The 22-year-old forward, who hasn’t played for United since January 2022 due to legal issues, is poised to leave Old Trafford after Marseille and United reached an agreement.
Following the dropping of charges against him, Greenwood spent the previous season on loan at La Liga side Getafe.
Greenwood, who has been with Manchester United since he was seven and has one cap for England, is expected to undergo a medical in France and complete the transfer’s final steps.
The deal will reportedly net Manchester United an initial £23.3 million, potentially rising to £26.7 million with add-ons.
This transfer fee would be the highest United has received for an academy graduate since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.
The 22-year-old was informed again by United last week that there was no way back for him at the club. Then, it was confirmed to the forward that he would be sold this summer.
Several clubs showed interest in Greenwood, but it was Marseille willing to put their money where their mouth is. He now looks to get his career back on track in France next season. He will have every confidence in his capabilities after proving himself in La Liga, scoring eight goals in Spain’s top division.

Marseille are going ahead with the deal despite being criticised by the city major last week with their intentions to sign Greenwood on a permanent deal became apparent.
