Owen Hargreaves Tips Manchester United for Europa League Glory in 2024-25 Season Under Erik ten Hag
Owen Hargreaves has backed his former club, Manchester United, to lift a major piece of silverware during the 2024-25 season under manager Erik ten Hag.
Despite a mixed start to the new campaign, Hargreaves believes the Europa League is a realistic target for Ten Hag’s side, who have had success in the competition before.
The former United midfielder cited United’s struggles in the Champions League last season as evidence that the Europa League is a competition they can win, suggesting that it might suit the club better this year.
Erik ten Hag has won trophies in both of his seasons at United, including the League Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024, when United beat Manchester City 2-1 in the final.
Hargreaves acknowledged that Ten Hag’s start to the 2024-25 campaign has been challenging, with early defeats to Brighton and Liverpool, but he also pointed out that United have recently returned to form, including a 7-0 demolition of Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.
Hargreaves emphasized that for United to truly compete for silverware this season, Ten Hag needs to identify and settle on his best team, including a consistent center-back partnership and forward line.
He warned that instability in the squad could undermine United’s chances in competitions like the Europa League and others, but he remains optimistic about their potential for success.
