Pep Confirms Double Injury Blow for Man City as Haaland Substitution Explained After 5-0 UCL Win
Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Manchester City wingers Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku are set to miss time due to injuries.
Before City’s 5-0 thrashing of Sparta Prague in the Champions League, Guardiola stated that Grealish could be out for around a week to 10 days, while Doku’s injury is expected to keep him sidelined for longer.
This adds to City’s growing injury list, which also includes Kevin De Bruyne, Kyle Walker, Rodri, and Oscar Bobb. As a result, City could not fill their bench for the match.
Despite these challenges, City continued their remarkable Champions League form, breaking the record for the most consecutive games unbeaten with 26 matches.
Erling Haaland played a starring role again, scoring two goals, including a spectacular acrobatic strike, but he was substituted while chasing a hat-trick.
Guardiola explained the decision, citing the team’s demanding schedule and Haaland’s understanding, despite the striker’s visible frustration at being taken off.
Manchester City, currently third in their Champions League group behind Aston Villa and Liverpool, are in a strong position to secure a top-eight finish and automatic qualification for the round of 16.
