Pep Guardiola Moved to Tears by Jürgen Klopp’s Message in Tribute to Departing Liverpool Boss
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola responded emotionally to Jürgen Klopp’s statement about the mutual drive and competition between Liverpool and Manchester City ahead of Klopp’s departure.
After Manchester City clinched the Premier League title, Guardiola was moved to tears as he paid tribute to the departing Liverpool manager. Klopp had acknowledged earlier in the week that without Manchester City’s dominance, Liverpool might have won more league titles under his leadership.
“I will miss him a lot,” Guardiola said during his post-match press conference, his voice wavering with emotion. “Jürgen has been a really important part of my life. He brought me to another level as a manager. We respect each other incredibly.”
Guardiola acknowledged the intense rivalry and mutual respect that have characterized their encounters over the past eight seasons, noting how both managers and their teams pushed each other to new heights.
“He helps me with his team… he has been a huge competitor in my life,” Guardiola continued. “With him, it has been so difficult.”
Reflecting on Klopp’s legacy, Guardiola expressed confidence that Mikel Arteta, among others, would continue to push Manchester City to new levels. He wished Klopp well, emphasizing the impact Klopp had on Liverpool and the enduring pride he instilled in its fans.

“He made Liverpool recognized with his stamp, and the incredible pride of being a Liverpool fan. It’s not just about titles; there are personalities that, when they arrive in one place, they stay forever. Jürgen and Liverpool will be part of the level of Shankly and Paisley and these incredible legends,” Guardiola concluded.
