Real Madrid Targets Manchester City’s Rodri Amidst Contract Standoff
Real Madrid are setting their sights on Manchester City midfielder Rodri as they plan their moves for the upcoming transfer window.
Despite having a contract with City that extends until the summer of 2027, Rodri’s future is under scrutiny as he has yet to agree to a new deal with the Premier League champions.
Rodri, 28, has become one of Europe’s top defensive midfielders since joining Manchester City in 2019. Real Madrid view him as an ideal long-term replacement for Toni Kroos, who retired earlier this summer.
The Spanish giants are reportedly confident of securing Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies as well, adding to their ambitious plans.
City’s attempts to secure Rodri to a new contract have so far been unsuccessful. The midfielder, who is also a contender for the 2024 Ballon d’Or, has expressed that Real Madrid is the only club he would consider leaving City for, given his past connection with Madrid from his time at Atlético.
Rodri’s exceptional performances, highlighted by a stellar 2023/24 season, have caught the attention of many.
Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, has praised Rodri’s contributions and noted his impressive track record, though he acknowledges that other players also deserve recognition for their achievements.
As the transfer saga unfolds, Real Madrid’s pursuit of Rodri could become one of the key stories in next summer’s transfer market.
