Leandro Trossard Explains Arsenal Red Card After Man City Clash: Reveals Dressing Room Reaction
After Leandro Trossard was sent off during Arsenal’s stormy match against Manchester City, he explained to his teammates in the dressing room that he did not hear the referee’s whistle before the incident.
Trossard, who received a second yellow card for allegedly delaying the restart by kicking the ball away, insisted he was attempting to make a pass and had no intention of time-wasting.
Despite informing referee Michael Oliver, Trossard was still shown red, much to his frustration and that of his teammates.
Trossard’s dismissal was part of a broader controversy during the match, with accusations from Manchester City players that Arsenal engaged in “dark arts” such as time-wasting.
However, Opta statistics revealed the ball was in play for over 63 minutes, one of the longest playtimes in any Premier League game this season, contradicting those claims.
There was also confusion about the extensive added time, with eight minutes added at the end of the first half and nine in the second, despite Arsenal playing with ten men for much of the game.
Frustration over refereeing inconsistencies was a key talking point for Arsenal, particularly as City winger Jeremy Doku was not booked for a similar offense of kicking the ball away, while Arsenal players had previously been sent off for the same action.
This raised concerns about double standards, as other players, like Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai, had also avoided punishment for similar offenses.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is likely to be particularly aggrieved by this perceived lack of consistency from match officials.
