The 24-year-old defender, who signed from Feyenoord in July 2022, has not played since undergoing knee surgery last summer. His last appearance was in the 2-1 victory over Fulham on May 28, 2023.
Malacia’s recovery faced several setbacks, causing him to miss the entire 2023/24 season. However, recent training videos show him working on an individual fitness program under the supervision of United’s medical team, suggesting significant progress in his recovery.
Fans have reacted positively to Malacia’s training ground appearance. Comments on social media include, “So good to have him back,” and, “Rivals won’t understand what it means getting Malacia back in training, next season gonna be scary.”
Others noted his importance to the team, with one saying, “Tyrell Malacia back in training. If United don’t buy a LB this summer we’re gonna need him,” and another adding, “Feels like a new signing.”
Erik ten Hag, Manchester United’s manager, expressed his frustrations last season over the absence of both Malacia and fellow left-back Luke Shaw, highlighting the impact on the team’s performance.
Ten Hag will be delighted with Malacia’s return, as it provides a significant boost to the squad’s defensive options ahead of the new season.
