Zinedine Zidane in Talks with INEOS Chief as Manchester United Job Speculation Grows
Zinedine Zidane remains in communication with Jean-Claude Blanc, the chief executive officer of sports at INEOS, amid ongoing discussions about a potential managerial role at Manchester United.
Zidane, who has been without a club since leaving Real Madrid in May 2021, has garnered interest from United, especially as they assess the future of current manager Erik ten Hag following a disappointing start to the season.
Reports indicate that INEOS, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has a strong admiration for Zidane, who has a storied history as both a player and coach, including winning the Champions League three times.
Despite the ongoing discussions, it appears that United is currently leaning towards retaining Ten Hag, even after one of their worst starts to a Premier League season.
The recent international break presented an opportunity for a managerial change, but the club opted to stick with their current setup after a lengthy seven-hour meeting involving key decision-makers.
One reason for this decision seems to be the perceived lack of quality coaching options available.
Zidane stands out as one of the few high-profile managers currently unattached, with Thomas Tuchel being another notable name.
However, there are concerns about Zidane’s lack of English proficiency, which he has acknowledged could hinder his effectiveness in the Premier League.
He has also emphasized his desire to return to management only with a club where he can aim for trophies, stating, “If I go back to a club, it is to win… That’s why I can’t just go anywhere.”
While Zidane’s future remains uncertain, the connection with INEOS suggests that the possibility of him taking on the Manchester United job is still very much alive, should the situation change.
For now, Ten Hag has survived the scrutiny but must quickly turn the team’s fortunes around to secure his position.
